Formedine Sample Storage System
The primary goal was to create a professional aesthetic capable of competing with industry leaders like Arktic by SPT Labtech and Verso Q-series by Hamilton. The design needed to be minimal yet sophisticated, conveying a high-tech, reliable appearance while ensuring ease of cleaning and maintenance. Establishing a distinct design language that could extend across future product lines was also key.

A critical focus of the design was the user interface: the loading port needed to remain unobstructed and safe, while the touch screen’s angle and height had to be ergonomically suitable for a wide range of users. Accessibility was also essential, with multiple entry points, including a removable top cover for the main freezer chamber and side service doors for maintaining the refrigeration unit and control system.
Form follows function, the main storage chamber—a cylindrical tank—defines the machine’s overall volume. The design features a cylindrical form intersected by a cuboid, with the cuboid’s depth minimized to reveal part of the cylinder and reduce the machine’s footprint. The result is a straightforward, manufacturable design with a distinctive, modern profile.
